more great collage ideas

happy new year! as many of you know, 2010 is going to be a big year of growth and change for me and my photography business i have been putting all of my focus on that lately, but i didn't want to forget to share with you some of the amazing work i did before christmas, you know way back in 2009! perhaps some of these collages will inspire you - we can custom make something that will become a treasured work of art for your family, just as I know these ones have for these families. =)

your favorite photos | my play as a mini-collage

one of my photographer friends sent along these photos for the photo call. she is very talented and has some gorgeous shots here! i thought i would have a play and create a 'mini-collage' that she could display on her website, blog or facebook page. i think it is a great way of displaying a few favorites all at once, and it shows that you can take different shots from different occasions and by turning them black and white you can bring them together to create a beautiful portrait. this particular layout would also make a great christmas card or a 4x6 print to give out as a gift or as a thankyou card. thanks to phillipa for sharing =)

so, back to the topic… deluxe collages! i have recently done a couple of collages that are larger than the standard ones i offer. they look absolutely amazing printed and framed, so i just had to share them with you all. the panoramic one i have posted here is printed and framed as a 12x36 inch (30x90 cm) collage and the square one is printed and framed as a 20x20 inch (50x50cm) collage. they can each hold up to 13 photos, so are a spectacular way to display your favorite shots! =)

i posted a photo of this baby in the green stripes earlier, but i loved the way the collage turned out so much that i just had to share it. i love that the parents chose such a great range of photos - especially the one of him crying. let's face it, babies do a bit of that, we might as well remember it fondly. the second collage is very similar, just rearranged a little. as i always say, the possibilities are endless =)

one of my favorite things to do for my clients are collages, or storyboards as they are sometimes called in the phography world. why do i like them? well i suppose the most obvious reason is that they look absolutely fantastic framed up on the wall! but i think the real reason is the freedom they allow. you don't have to pick your one favorite photo, you can use your favorite 3 or 6 or 12 and put them together to create something that represents your child or family. and i love that, rather than just popping your photos into a precut mat, a collage allows you to have so many more options for the sizes of photos and the layout, plus you can really make it personal and unique by adding a name or date or a quote. to me a collage is all about possibility - the possibilities are endless. and if you can dream it i can create it!

here is a recent collage i did for a family. i didn't plan to do this collage and the mum didn't ask that i create one, but i found that i could not chose my one favorite photo of this pose! so i thought, to hell with it! i am not going to pick one favorite, i am going to use all 3! like i said, it is all about the possibility... =)
